Hiringa Energy is building green hydrogen production projects using renewable energy to displace the use of fossil fuels for transport and industrial feedstock.
Hydrogen has the power to unlock the full potential of the world's rapidly developing renewable sector by enabling large scale storage over long periods of time and the transport of energy.
WE DEVELOP INFRASTRUCTURE
One of the great hurdles to the adoption of any new fuel is a reliable supply network.
We are building hydrogen production, distribution and high capacity refuelling infrastructure across key road freight lanes in New Zealand and Australia.
WE FACILITATE MARKET USE OF HYDROGEN
Hiringa Energy is working with fuel cell manufacturers and Original Equipment Manufacturers to bring hydrogen fuel cell technology to customers.
Together with partners, we enable customers to access hydrogen fuel cell transport solutions which will complement lighter duty, pure electric vehicles.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS
CATHERINE CLENNETT
Chairperson
Cathy is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors and a Founding Board Member Launch Taranaki. She has served on the boards of early stage companies in New Zealand and Australia.
Cathy was also on the steering committee for the formation of New Zealand’s New Energy Development Centre, Ara Ake - established to lead and facilitate the development of low-emissions energy innovation and technology in New Zealand.
Cathy has over 27 years' of experience spanning the energy, resources, infrastructure and telecommunications sectors. She holds a Bachelor in Engineering (Mechanical and Electrical) with Honours, and a Masters in Business and Technology from the Australian Graduate School of Management (UNSW).
DAVID WOODS
Independent Director
David is Deputy Chair of New Zealand Green Investment Finance, a director of Whai Rawa Fund Ltd, a trustee of The Gift Trust, former Chair of the Impact Enterprise Fund, and Deputy Chair of the New Zealand National Advisory Board on Impact Investing.
David also sits on overseas boards for the Aga Khan Foundation as an Independent Director, First Microfinance Bank Afghanistan, and First Microfinance Company Egypt.
David has significant experience managing and overseeing HR, Finance, Treasury, Legal and Risk units as well as front office and strategic roles, and is a graduate of Harvard University.
BRENDON GREEN
Independent Director
Brendon brings extensive experience from working with (and within) Māori entities, and is also a director of Watercare, and Waipapa marae (Kawhia) representative to Waikato Tainui's governing body.
Brendon's core background is from the energy sector where he has held several commercial leadership roles in New Zealand, Mexico and the United States, around the development of thermal and renewable generation assets.
Brendon is of Ngati Hikairo and Ngapuhi descent, holds an Honours Degree in Chemical and Process Engineering and a Post Graduate Diploma in Dairy Science & Technologies.
ANDREW CLENNETT
Director
Andrew is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors and has held several directorship and trustee positions including former Director of Shell Todd Oil Services (STOS), Trustee of Energy Skills NZ, and is currently a board member of the New Zealand Hydrogen Council.
Andrew has served on national and international industry working committees, examples including Aotearoa Circle Low Carbon Emission Roadmap Technical Advisory Group and World Energy Council Hydrogen Working Group.
Andrew has over 26 years' of energy industry experience and holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical and Electrical) with Honours from the University of Tasmania.

ANDREW CLENNETT
Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder
Andrew is an experienced energy executive with strong organisational development skills and a track record of delivery on business integration, transition and growth.
Further to his directorship and trustee positions, Andrew has over 26 years' of broad international experience in a range of senior leadership, management, commercial and technical roles.
Prior to Hiringa Energy, Andrew held senior roles at Woodside Energy and Todd Energy. As GM Operations he was accountable for Todd Energy's New Zealand production and project delivery.
As CEO of Hiringa Energy, Andrew has worked to bring the hydrogen opportunity to the forefront in the energy transition in New Zealand and Australia, bridging new energy models with the existing incumbent industries and building partnerships across sectors.
DAN KAHN
Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder
Dan is an experienced mechanical engineer with a background in hydrogen product development and industrial water treatment.
Holding a Bachelor of Applied Science and Mechanical Engineering (Minor in Commerce), where he graduated with Distinction, Dan brings a wealth of international experience to the team in the field of clean technology development at an executive level. As a technical leader, Dan is experienced in low-carbon intensity fuels, industrial control systems design, hands-on electro-mechanical equipment installation and maintenance, as well as industrial plant commissioning.
As an expert in controls, systems and automation, Dan has designed, installed and commissioned 700 bar H2 filling stations, and automated fuel-cell manufacturing equipment.
Further to this, Dan brings product development, market, and policy positioning expertise, management of multimillion-dollar government and other non-dilutive funding programs and has experience in raising over $100M USD in private and non-dilutive investment.
CHARLES WIDDICOMBE
Chief Financial Officer
Charles is an investment professional with over 20 years' experience in deal advisory, CFO and senior finance roles.
At Hiringa, Charles is responsible for capital raising, commercial and techno-economic analysis, as well as the company’s financial functions. As both a Chartered Accountant and CFA charterholder, Charles brings financial and strategic capabilities to the Hiringa team, along with his passion for zero emission transport.
Charles holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (Honours) from the University of Southampton, and during his CFO role at Eco Stock, a food waste recycling company, he helped support the genesis of the anaerobic digestion plant at Reporoa to produce biogas.
In his capacity as a volunteer, Charles was involved in the CFA Society of New Zealand, culminating in being President of the Society from 2013 to 2014.
CATHERINE CLENNETT
Head of Commercial and Corporate Development
Cathy has a broad technical and commercial background with over 27 years’ experience covering engineering, project management, technology commercialisation, business development, corporate development and investment.
Cathy has held senior engineering, project management, business development, and construction management roles in the energy, resources and telecommunications infrastructure sectors. She has broad commercial and finance expertise including technology commercialisation, capital raising and project finance, as well as investment analysis, strategy and management.
Cathy has EPCM experience having worked internationally for Bechtel, and been responsible for managing the engineering, construction and commissioning of fast track projects.
RYAN McDONALD
Head of New Business
Ryan's career spans almost 20 years' of engineering consultancy principally in the energy and resources sector, including over a decade in various general management roles throughout Australasia.
With a background in Mechanical Engineering, Ryan has a strong track record in developing innovative solutions for project development and reducing operational cost. He is a technology enabler and drives innovation from design through to operations.
Ryan is a Chartered Professional Engineer who has spent much of his career executing concept development and feasibility studies as well as managing teams in the design and optimisation of onshore/offshore facilities across Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
Ryan, who also holds a BTech (Honours) Manufacturing and Industrial Technology, has extensive technical experience covers concept and feasibility studies, project techno-economic analysis, as well as leading business strategy and pre-contract management activities.
MATT CARNACHAN
Head of Trading and Energy Markets
Matt, who is also one of Hiringa’s Co-Founders, has over ten years’ experience in commodity trading and energy markets.
Matt has held senior roles at major energy companies in New Zealand and the UK, leading teams to develop trading and risk management strategies that underpin aggressive growth and financial targets. Matt brings a strong commercial background and a deep understanding of power, gas and carbon markets to Hiringa's business. His experience and knowledge also extends to traditional hydrocarbon and shipping markets.
At Hiringa, Matt leads the commercial and trading side of our green hydrogen supply chain, from procurement or generation of green electrons and bio-gas, through to optimisation and supply of green hydrogen to various offtake markets, including ammonia and heavy transport.
AMELIA RENTZIOS
Head of Operations
Amelia brings over 15 years' experience in production engineering and operations management to the Hiringa Team. The majority of her experience comes from managing oil and gas production facilities both in New Zealand and internationally.
Her senior leadership roles in the energy industry have seen her develop and execute operations, maintenance and HSSE strategies for production facilities from greenfield to late life. In doing so, achieving reliability critical to New Zealand’s natural gas demand. She has a passion for emissions reduction and has led low carbon initiatives such as conversion of process utilities from fuel gas to electric. Amelia champions operational excellence and team capability development, and was recently recognised for her leadership as a finalist in the Deloitte’s Top 200 Business Young Executive of the Year.
As a board member on the Young Energy Professionals Network (a member committee of the NZ Business Energy Council) and founding member of the Taranaki branch, Amelia also mentors women studying Engineering and pursuing careers in industry.
Amelia studied at the University of Auckland and holds a Bachelor of Chemical and Materials Engineering.
MATT LUSCOMBE
Head of Development and Projects
Matt has over 15 years' experience within the energy sector including team management, front end engineering, detailed engineering, commissioning, project management and operations support.
Matt has designed, delivered, and commissioned numerous greenfield and brownfield energy projects in the New Zealand including LPG and gas/condensate process facilities, gathering and distribution infrastructure and complex production system optimisation initiatives.
Matt is passionate about delivering value through the all elements of asset ownership. Matt is responsible for overseeing the development and execution of facilities projects and asset operations for Hiringa Energy, their joint venture partners and stakeholders. This position is critical for provision of strategic and executive leadership for delivery of safe, timely, efficient and high-quality activities through all facets of the asset lifecycle from concept select to operations.
Matt holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical & Process) with Honours from the University of Canterbury.
EMILY HILTON
HSEQ Manager
Emily holds a Masters of Science in Risk and Safety Management and has over 10 years’ experience working in the energy industry. With a background in process safety, Emily came to Hiringa from a risk management consultancy in the UK, joining our team in February 2020.
Emily is responsible for ensuring the safe delivery of projects across New Zealand and Australia, overseeing all HSEQ and risk management activities from project concept through to operation. Emily has participated as an industry expert in numerous settings while representing Hiringa Energy, including liaising closely with the New Zealand government on development of regulatory controls for green hydrogen.
Emily is a current Future Energy Leader for the World Energy Council and also sits on the board for New Zealand Young Energy Professionals Network. In her capacity as a volunteer, Emily is a STEM mentor in schools for The Wonder Project and is a volunteer Shift Manager for local food waste redistribution charity, On The House, as well as Chairperson of their board.
