Hiringa Energy is developing a hydrogen refuelling network which helps New Zealand decarbonise heavy transport and allows your business to affordably operate a fleet of zero emission vehicles.

We are partnering with global fuel cell and vehicle manufacturers to bring hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) to New Zealand which will utilise our nationwide green hydrogen network - one of the world's first of its kind.

Our network links production and refuelling hubs so that vehicles can travel between cities and regions throughout New Zealand. As demand grows, additional refuelling sites will be added throughout the country.

We use renewable power and biomass to produce green hydrogen - a truly sustainable, zero emissions replacement for your liquid fuels.

Refuelling your fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) is as simple as pulling into one of Hiringa Energy's refuelling stations and filling the vehicle with hydrogen - just as you would have previously with diesel.

Hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) 

have similar range, payload capabilities and refuelling times as conventional vehicles with the benefits of:

  • Zero carbon emissions, reduced noise, fuel cells 95% recyclable

  • High performance - instant torque and acceleration, with no degradation

  • 500-700km range available

  • Refuelling in 20 minutes via Hiringa's nationwide infrastructure network

  • Payload comparable to Euro 6 models

  • High efficiency - up to 2-3 times more efficient than internal combustion engines

  • Fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) combine air and hydrogen to make water and electricity

  • FCEVs use the same drivetrains as electric vehicles but have smaller batteries

  • Energy is stored as compressed hydrogen gas at 350 bar

  • Hydrogen storage is lighter than batteries so FCEVs carry more payload and drive further

  • Range can be extended by simply increasing the number of hydrogen storage tanks
